Skiied yesterday boarded today

I'm just not feeling well

I did three miles on the elliptical yesterday. It was so windy here all day yesterday there was no way I was going outside. But I really didn't want to go at all, and I only did three miles. Today I did go outside, but just could NOT bring myself to run, I walked two miles.

And I slept like twelve hours last night! And kept waking up all hot and sweaty. Usually on the weekends I am all about pushing myself, but I just think I must be getting sick or something this weekend.

A new 5K best

At least, I think it is. My 5K time for that Denver half was 41:51. I just did 5K in 38:39 which is 12:28 per mile. I don't believe I've ever gone that fast, at least when I have done my own calculations.

So, remember after that half and I was trying to increase my speed and so I was trying to do 3:2 intervals? Since nobody actually ever reads my posts, I'll remind you.... it didn't make me any faster at all. So, I thought I would try instead to decrease my walk interval, so today I did 2:1 intervals. And I did get faster. And it was okay. I mean, it was definitely harder, but it wasn't un-doable, if you know what I mean.

So, I think I am going to train on 2:1 intervals and see how that goes. I am going to do a 5K that is officially timed on March 6th, I think.

It was a tough run today, I'm not feeling very well. I think I ate some bad sushi in L.A. yesterday. What an armpit of a city that place is. I really didn't want to go at all, but I am working from home this morning, so I didn't want to waste the opportunity.

not there yet

Wow, you are both doing so great, I am inspired! My chest cold seems to be working its way up to my head. So nothing for me yet. I am itching to register for another event but I haven't done so yet. I never did sign up for the warrior dash - I am just too intimidated and I never started training. When should we do our next half? And where? It looks like I'll be in a much better place, financially, before too long. Maybe 6 months or so. So I might even be able to go somewhere with you guys!

3.5 again

Along with cleaning garage and redoing kids rooms! Busy weekend around here but I'm on a good streak fo shizzle.

3 miles

at work on treadmill. sandy, i think that song is by the ting tings. i can burn it for you if you can't find it. i can't go tomorrow, i have to fly out to l.a. for work. but wednesday morning i should be going. do either of you have any races planned? missy, are you still planning for that warrior dash?

Another 3.5

Pretty decent run, was nice and cold out and this time I wore long pants. Took a few short walk breaks in the last mile. Today I think I'm just gonna do 2 or so as I have a lot of work to do around the house.

Are you calling me darlin'?

Hahahaha! Have you guys downloaded that song yet? Such a good one, my favorite running song right now.

Anyhoodle, did three miles today on that trail I talked about. It was AWESOME! My time was terrible (13:38 per mile), because there were lots and lots of hills, but we had such a good time. Nobody was on the trail at all, so I was singing to the dog, and I just didn't feel like I needed to worry about anything, no people, no cars, no nothing. Just me, my ipod and the dog. We were kings of the trail!

pouring like a motherfucker

I started this post in my head and had it titled "3.5 in a cold gentle rain". Well, you can see how it ended. I cut my route through the neighborhood short and only did 3 just so I could get inside. I found myself hoping that a sympathetic passerby would offer us a ride. Wishing I had a kindhearted husband or driving age kid who might think enough to notice the situation I had gotten myself into and come rescue me. I was only in shorts and a long sleeve dry-fit shirt, thinking I would beat the weather. Alas it was not to be. LOL you should have seen fat dog trying to run without getting wet. She seemed to think for awhile that if she did this weird tiptoe gait she could avoid the drops.

Outside Finally!

Okay, I just went and was finally able to play with my new Forerunner for the first time! So, okay. I did my regular lap, which I had used google maps to calculate at .57 miles. I did six laps, which I would have calculated the old way at 3.42 miles. However, the Garmin calculated it at 3.34 miles. As you may recall, I did nearly all my training for the half marathon using this lap, and I have wondered since then if I was off in my calculations and that is part of why the race did not go quite as well as I would have liked. I gotta tell you, I am really trusting the Garmin on this one. I think my calculations were just a bit off, and when you are doing twelve laps and calculating them all at just a little bit longer than they actually are, your distance then gets quite distorted, right? So, my long training runs were never quite as long as I had thought they were, and my miles per hour was also off a bit due to that. So, I was never trained as well as I thought I was for that half. Which explains why I did not do as well as I thought I would.

BUT, it is the dawning of a new day, people!! Now, I can run anywhere and know exactly how far I have gone! Tomorrow, I plan to run a trail called the Plum Creek Trail here near my neighborhood. You can drive and park there and I see people do it all the time, but I was always reluctant to do it, since I would have no way of knowing how far I had gone, since Gmaps doesn't show it. But now I can!

Incidentally, the Forerunner put my time at 43:25 and my per mile time at 12:59, which I am quite pleased with. It also says I burned 450 calories, which I also believe is probably quite accurate, since it takes a profile of you including your weight. Awesome, huh?

There is supposed to be this software that you can download onto your computer to track all kinds of things with your Forerunner, but I can't figure it out! I have to get Chris to help me. Anyways, in the meantime, I am really excited about this thing!

It was a hard run today, but I am glad I did it. I was finding myself reluctant to go outside again, kind of like I was last year before I had started running outside at all. Although this time it was more due to just knowing that it was going to be harder than the treadmill. And it was hard! Even the walking was surprisingly difficult, but I guess that is to be expected after so much running and elliptical. I haven't really walked for exercise much in the past few weeks.

Anyways, what are you guys doing this weekend? No wasting the weekend!!!! You have the entire day to fit it in, so get it done!

4 Miles

Elliptical. Last night. Then I ate a blizzard. I can't win them all, people!

Now I'm trying to talk myself into going outside today.

not a great week

With K being sick and trip to San Fran for work, but I did 3.5 this evening. Walked most of the last mile. It was so nice outside. I may hop on the bosu while J and I watch Saw V. Good time friday nite!

Another 3

Will likely take tomorrow off. Goddess willing, I will be able to finally do an outside run this weekend, the snow finally all melted but now it is all windy outside, but hopefully that will die down.

3 Miles

Treadmill. Time was 39:25.

Sandy, you will love those songs. Also, I forgot to mention my most recent obsessive cool down song, which is "Under African Skies" by Paul Simon. I have been listening to it during cool down every single time and sometimes twice for weeks now.

because im awesome

I did two before work yesterday, and I did some strength training with bosu and ball last night whilst watching Bachelor drama. I basicall did 10 reps of all kinds of arm lifts, then did some legs and light abs. Not the least bit sore today so will up the ante. K came into my room at 2am with 102 degree fever so was up a lot of the night and she missed school. Thus no running this morn. Mari I'm no longer bonding spiritually with whales but going to San Fran tomorrow for the night! I got an awesome new tiny ipod for Vday so the first thing I'm gonna do is buy your songs Mari.

I haven't gone!

I am so unmotivated. Work is killing me. KILLING ME. Spending all day in 80 - 85 degree heat on top of the teaching really takes its toll. Nobody gives a fuck that we are sitting in that heat all day. I applied at Pima yesterday to teach high-school and college level algebra. I want to help the Mariannes of the world!!
Saturday I taught and did lesson plans and paperwork at Pima for 5 hours, and then I tutored for 2 more. I am just so tired, I spent most of yesterday just relaxing. My house is a pigsty, my laundry isn't done, I am behind on my IEP (special ed) paperwork, and this week I have 4 meetings scheduled for after school plus probably 2 nights of tutoring. I am having a really hard time with my mood swings in the afternoon and evenings and I think it's due to the heat because I was better yesterday. I guess we'll see how I do today. Anyway the bottom line is that I am hanging on by my fingernails and just don't see how I can make myself run in the morning when I can barely get out of bed.
The good news is we are benchmark testing this week, so the class periods will be really short. And, I have next Thursday and Friday off for Rodeo Days. I'm going to sleep and sleep and sleep.

Sunday, February 13, 2011

"Tell the devil I said hey when you get back to where you're from." - that's my compelling lyric for today. So funny. I did 3.5 outside yesterday. I didn't go today. I was just tired. Maybe had something to do with the 10 or so beers I had last night celebrating Ts 40th bday.

4 Miles

Treadmill. Funny story, I was determined this morning to go running outside. So, I take the dog and we head out. I get .2 miles out according to the Garmin and I realize there is no way I can do this. The sidewalks were so icy and some parts of them were still really deep in snow, and I couldn't even count the number of times I nearly twisted my ankle or just went down on my ass from slipping. So, we turned around and went home. The poor dog, he hasn't had a decent walk or run in weeks because of the crappy weather around here. So, I came home and announced I was going to the gym. Where I did four miles on the treadmill. I am not taking any walk breaks to speak of on the treadmill anymore, just real quick ones to take a sip of water.

Anyhoodle, where are you guys? Don't tell me you are wasting the weekend!

5 miles

3 Miles

On treadmill at work yesterday. Getting ready to go to gym today, I will probably do the elliptical today and run tomorrow.

Proceed at your own Peril

the sign said. I took a run along the coast in Maui this morning and words can't describe the beauty. As I came down a path heading to the coast, the first thing I saw was a giant whale jumping off the coast, magnificent splash. I am so very very blessed. I ran along the coast to a place where it became jagged, and a sign posted that said "Trail becomes rocky and dangerous from this point forward. The only way back is the way you came. Proceed at your own peril." Seriously. That's what it said. So of course I had to proceed, and had a small pang of regret that I didn't bring a camera. I followed it to these tide pools below the cliffs that were just incredible and pristine, deep blue water. All the time whales were blowing in the distance. I took a moment to meditate on the cliff, breathing in the beauty in the world, the divine. I made my way back (at my own peril) and stood on a cliff to watch the whales. Two just off the coast were breathing in unison, and periodically their shiny bodies would surface together, as if they were playing whimsically in the waves. So beautiful. And all the while I was listening to a very cool playlist that a cute boy made for me. A spiritual experience it was.

I'll credit myself for 2.5 miles today. And I did 2 on Monday morning. So I have 3 this week.

Whew, that was close.

I'm back in one piece this morning. Whew, that was iffy for a while! I'll be heading out for 2.6 in a few minutes. Yay! I still haven't started my strength routine. Sandy? How ya doin?

The crazy's got me.

Last week at my shrink appointment, we changed my meds around to add a stimulant and drop an anti-depressant. And drop the thyroid. The goal is to get my energy back, which I have been lacking for months. Well I am round the bend. Bad depressed. Been in bed for 2 days. Looks like today will be another. I did call Dr. Saeed and started the anti-depressant again, so I should be feeling better soon, but in the meantime all I can do is sleep and cry. Now this isn't the proper venue for this post but I did want to let you guys know what was happening because one of the things I have learned is to let people know what is happening. Please tell me if you don't want me to post this crap here because I won't be offended and I won't do it. My main point being I haven't gone this week and it's fucking shitty because it felt so good to be back on the horse last week. SO VERY GOOD. I'm sick of being crazy. I'm sick of the pity party. I'm sick of being me. Can you guys please pray for me. That is all.

On treadmill at work. I did two or three short walk breaks whenever I felt my ankle twinge, but otherwise ran. It was SO nice to run again, even if it was on the treadmill. I sure am looking forward to this snow going away and being able to run outside.

Also, here are some songs I have been enjoying lately. Please tell me yours!!!

Keep Your Head - The Ting Tings
That's Not My Name - The Ting Tings
Feel Like Home - Fort Minor
High Road - Fort Minor
Forca - Nelly Furtado
Because I'm Awesome - The Dollyrots

back 2 good

I did 3.5 today. Ran most of ot but took a few walk breaks in the last mile. I intended to get a bosu at Target for strength training but game is on now so. Maybe I wil do some planks or somethin.

5 Miles

More elliptical love. I love that I can totally close my eyes and still keep working on the machine. Can't do that on a treadmill or running outside.

4 Miles Elliptical

I have not gone since Sunday. My pathetic work out log looks awful. It will only have two little entries this week. Not even my minimum standard. Oh well. For anyone who wants to get on board the excuse train, what happened was the weather here was so goddamn miserable all week long, that it made going to the gym at work pretty much my only option (it being fifteen below and icy outside, making it so I would be taking my life in my hands either going outside or driving to the gym), and work was just awful this week and I never did make it. Just goes to show you what happens when you only have a plan A.

David was surprised I would be going to the gym on my birthday, but I told him the alternative would be spending the day crying on the couch while eating my entire birthday cake. So.

My new February strength training routine starts today! It consists of:

20 planks, holding for ten seconds apiece rather than the five I was doing before.
40 clams per leg, as opposed to the thirty I did last month
20 "easy ups", which I am defining as push ups but on my knees. I think we used to call those "girl push ups" but I find that term offensive, so I won't use it.

I did 2.6 in the 19 degree dark morning. It was good though. I ran a bit and it felt good.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Yeah, forget that

It's 20 degrees outside, the wind chill is 8 degrees. Not going... but I might take a bag to work and see if the workout room will be open.

2 miles this morning, down and then up the monstrous hill on Houghton just past Escalante. I'm sore. I will take tomorrow off.
